Guide, data sources & FAQ

How to use

Search an address, pick a popular place, click the map, or enter longitude/latitude and look up. After a place is selected, use Nearby places (MapFirst) to search restaurants, cafes and hotels near that address. Copy address, coordinates, elevation and share a link when needed.

What problem it solves

Turns global addresses into WGS84 coordinates and reverse-geocodes map points into structured place details for navigation, GIS and travel planning—including nearby dining and lodging discovery via MapFirst.

Data sources

Geocoding: LocationIQ with Nominatim (OpenStreetMap) fallback. Nearby places: MapFirst partner listings. Elevation: local 1 km DEM. Weather (when shown): WeatherAPI.com. Basemap: MapFirst via MapLibre.

Frequently asked questions

Why was my address not found?

Try a clearer street-level address, add city and country, or click the map near the place. Informal nicknames may not exist in OSM-based geocoders.

What fields are returned?

Typical results include formatted address, street, city/region, country, country code, WGS84 lat/lng, DEM elevation estimate and geocode provider attribution.

What is Nearby places (MapFirst) for?

After you geocode or click the map, the Nearby search box is filled with your place address so you can look up restaurants, cafes, hotels and similar venues around that location. It is meant for dining and lodging discovery; results and outbound links come from MapFirst / partners.

Do I have to type the address again for restaurants or hotels?

No. Once a place is selected, we prefill a query like “restaurants near …” using that address. You can edit the keyword (e.g. hotels, cafes) and search the current map view.

Is elevation survey-grade?

No. Elevation is an estimate from a global ~1 km DEM and is not a surveyed measurement.

Can I use results outside my country?

Yes. The tool is built for worldwide WGS84 lookups. Coverage quality depends on OpenStreetMap and provider data density.
